Chapter 327
Chapter 327:.
Smiling pleasantly, Hayden lightly touched Noah’s nose, “What if I don’t want to marry your father? Then you won’t be able to see me again.”
Hearing this, Noah failed to keep his cool and tried to climb on top of Hayden grabbing her by the arms.
“No. Please don’t, Mom!”
Hayden pulled him up, gently patting him on the back, “I’m just kidding.”
Noah’s reaction was unexpected.
He muttered discontentedly against his shoulder, “You can leave my dad, but don’t leave me.”
Both Hayden’s uncle and aunt burst out laughing at his plea.
Then his aunt gave Joseph a meaningful look, mockingly saying, “Your son is more fond of Hayden than he is of you, even though he’s only taken care of him for half a year. To be honest, if you hurt Hayden, your son is very likely to take his side.”
Knowing it was a joke and not taking it seriously, Joseph’s grandfather laughed as well “If my grandson hurts Hayden, then I will kick him out of the house and protect Hayden. It would be a shame to have such a descendant.”
Everyone at the table sneered at him, Joseph stared at Noah, whose face took on a frightened expression.
“Come to papa, Noah.”
Noah, who remained calmly in Hayden’s arms, looked back at Joseph, grumbling, “Don’t be so rude, Dad. My mom must love those who are gentle.”
His statement caused them to let out guffaws.
Obviously, Hayden’s aunt was not averse to hosting the Beckham Family for such a nice, quiet dinner.
When they finished the meal, Mr. Beckham led Hayden’s uncle and his wife to the door, showing that he held Hayden in high regard. “Please leave us here and go back to the house, it’s too windy now.”
His aunt held up her hand as a signal.
But Hayden was determined to stay at the door until her car gradually disappeared into the darkness.
As it was too late, Hayden spent the night at the Beckhams’, which pleased the two children, who expected to sleep in Hayden’s room and lay down on his bed as Joseph talked to their grandfather in the study.
Hayden took his children in his arms, lying down on the bed as well and telling them a bedtime story.
“A long time ago, there were two rabbits. One was white and one was black. One day, they met in the forest…”.
It is quite late, but Joseph was still having a serious conversation with his grandfather, who became angry and solemn after reading the material Joseph had given him.
“I think you’ve had a plan ever since you brought me these records.”
Sitting down in front of the desk, Joseph nodded, “And the plan is already being carried out step by step. I assume you’ve been under protection, since your movements are well hidden. So I let Magnus look into it.”
“Any results?”
“It’s Luke Hamilton, from the police.”
Upon hearing the name, Mr. Beckham took a deep breath, slammed his hand on the table, and burst out, “Son of a bitch!”
Mr. Beckham helped promote Luke Hamilton by using his connections; he used to be a busy member of the Criminal Investigation Division who often ran errands for the Beckhams. It was surprising that he now believed he was so powerful that he dared to conceal illegal trafficking.
Joseph said gravely, “He is currently the head of the Drug Enforcement Division in N City, so all files submitted to higher management must be vetted by him. Even if he doesn’t actually manage to intercept all the messages, I’m afraid he manages to inform the key trafficking bodies and help them escape punishment.”
Harrison frowned, thinking that it is impossible to keep Franklin safe, even if he was a member of his family. So he said in a low tone, “Okay, do whatever you want. But remember to cut off his connection with our family, we can’t ruin our reputation because of a black sheep.”
“Understood.” Joseph gave his agreement immediately.
He asked Benjamin for help to privately confront the illegal trade in order to maintain his family’s fame, that was also the reason why he was unwilling to report directly to a superior.
In his opinion, if he did, Franklin’s name would be exposed by the police, and as he was now the CEO of the ST Group that scandal would destroy the company’s reputation, resulting in the stock price falling. But if he were caught by Benjamin, the consequence would be more amicable, as Franklin’s name, would not be made known to the media.
After the discussion, Joseph returned to the room.
When he opened the door, he saw his children sleeping soundly in bed.
With a stuffed sheep in her hands, Stella was lying against Hayden’s left arm, carelessly shaking the comforter that was meant to cover her. And their son, Noah, slept next to Hayden, clinging to his right arm.
When he was missing, his sons quickly took his place.
Although Joseph felt very sorry at the thought of the embarrassment Stella and Noah had put him through at dinner, he was deeply touched by their adorable faces.
Hayden slept well enough, with the awareness that someone had reduced the load on his arms and crawled into bed.
He murmured, rolling over and curling into a familiar embrace.
And a low voice sounded next to her ears that disturbed her, “It’s snowing outside.”
“Well…” She was a little tired, refusing to even lift a finger. Then, suddenly opening her eyes after thinking about what it meant, crying she asked, “Snowing?”.
Joseph was hit in the jaw as Hayden lifted his head and grunted unconsciously, nodding with one hand covering his jaw, “Right. It’s started snowing right now.”
Ignoring her pained expression, Hayden jumped out of bed and walked over to the window.
The sound he made as he pulled back the curtain was clear in the room.noveldrama
The world was obscured by snow falling here and there: street lamps were covered; dry tree branches were crushed; the narrow road outside was buried under snow. The scene before him was most spectacular.
“Where’s my phone?” She turned around to look for it, but landed on a warm shaggy rug, both corners of which were held by Joseph, who wrapped and hugged her gently, reproaching her, “You need more clothes, or you’ll freeze.”
“It’s not cold for me.” Hayden winked at him, “The room is heated, give me more freedom. I want to take a picture and send it to Alayna.”
“Hey, why are you sharing everything with her? Okay, only do it if you can get away from me.” Joseph was obviously jealous of Alayna.
“If you say so…”. A sly look appeared in her eyes. She was going to tickle his waist from the comforter.
She knew his weak spot from having practiced many times tickling him there, the waist was the most sensitive part of his body.
Before she reached him, however, the carpet confined her more tightly. She looked up to find him pleased and pleased, realizing that she had prepared well for his reaction.
Hayden sulked a little, “You can’t do that to me. Come on, let go of the rug.”
