Chapter 29
Willow almost got the phone, when Tyson went on.
"Little boy, I'm not pretending. Tell your mother that you've damaged our property when you came to our CEO's office today. She must pay our company two hundred and sixty-three thousand dollars as compensation." Willow, who almost reached the phone, froze once more when she heard his words. Her eyes widened, and her heart beat wildly.
She had heard Jasper mentioning that he would get the children's parents to compensate for the damages, but she didn't expect Jasper to mean it.noveldrama
That was an astronomical amount!
Willow was in shock. Meanwhile, Julian replied solemnly, "Liar! I'll tell my father that you frightened me using his name, and that you've hurt my feelings. You must pay me two hundred and sixty-three thousand dollars for mental damage." Julian was very keen. Despite his tender age, his acting skills were top-notch. He made it difficult to distinguish between truth and fiction.
Julian was so good, Tyson began suspecting that Julian really might be Jasper's illegitimate child he knew nothing about.
Feeling slightly worried, Tyson cupped the phone's receiver with his other hand, and turned to Jasper. "Mr. Hughes, a little boy answered the call. He said you're his father. Do you—"
Jasper's icy gaze pierced him before he could finish. He shut his mouth instantly.
Then, he realized for the first time that he actually believed a child's words and doubted Jasper. It was a blemish on his sharp competence in his many years as a professional.
To think a professional like him almost fell into a child's trap!
Tyson immediately became serious. "Little boy, I don't have time to joke around. I'm not pretending. Tell your mother to answer the phone."
Julian prepared his next words, about to reply. Willow, nervous, hurriedly snatched the phone from Julian to talk. A split-second later, she remembered that she had spoken to Tyson in the company. He could recognize her voice. Tyson was looking for the guardian of the children-that being Rachel.
Because of the restrictions of household registration, Willow couldn't put the children under her name. Thus, she put them as Rachel's children.
On paper, Rachel was the children's legal guardian.
In the past, it was difficult for Lara to register Willow's birth. Willow's grandparents died early, and Lara had given birth out of wedlock. Because of that, she couldn't register Willow as her daughter. Thus, Lara took Willow to Nason Village and registered her as her uncle's daughter.
When Willow also gave birth out of wedlock, her relatives in Nason Village refused to accept her children.
Willow could only turn to her close friend Rachel for help. Fortunately, Rachel's parents were civil servants. They were able to register the four children under Rachel's name.
Since then, Rachel became the children's legal guardian.
If Willow's identity was revealed, she would have to pay huge compensation and lose her job at the same time.
It was hard enough for her to put food on the table. There was no way she could pay Jasper for the damage!
Willow hurriedly handed the phone to Rachel, and gestured for Rachel to answer in her stead.
Rachel was in the dark about the situation at hand. Seeing Willow's tense expression, however, she knew her friend was in big trouble.
Nervous, Rachel took the phone and said timidly, "H-Hello..."
